Senior WordPress Developer – Lead, Innovate, Inspire
Location: Hybrid - 2 days in the Kettering office (Tuesdays and Thursdays), flexible remote working available
Salary: Competitive + regular reviews and progression opportunities
Seventy9 is on the hunt for an exceptional Senior WordPress Developer to join and lead our expanding web development team. If you’re a problem-solver, a mentor, and a coder with a passion for pushing technology forward, this is your chance to shape the future of digital projects for over 200 active clients.
We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings a wealth of experience across PHP, WordPress, database management, and associated technologies. Someone who has the personality to inspire and support a growing team.
What you’ll be doing
As a Senior Developer, you’ll play a central role in delivering high-quality, production-ready websites and applications. You’ll be hands-on in the codebase, but equally comfortable mentoring junior developers and collaborating with project managers and designers to turn ideas into outstanding solutions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and mentoring a talented team of developers.
- Building, optimising, and maintaining WordPress sites (custom theme and plugin development, site clean-ups, performance optimisation).
- Supporting full project lifecycles from concept and specification to development, testing, and launch.
- Advising on best-fit solutions whether that’s leveraging off-the-shelf tools or crafting bespoke code.
- Contributing to coding standards and processes to keep our development practices consistent and robust.
- Collaborating with the Project Manager on scheduling and prioritising work.
What we’re looking for
We need a confident developer with a deep understanding of PHP (5.x–8.x) and a proven track record working across a range of web projects. You’ll be equally at home debugging complex code, managing hosting environments, and working within version control. You will need to be confident in managing the migration of websites from new clients who are looking to move to our hosting platform.
Core skills and experience required:
- PHP: (object orientated and procedural) full lifecycle development, debugging and optimisation.
- WordPress: theme/plugin development, installations, modifications, performance optimisation, troubleshooting.
- MySQL/MariaDB: setup, backups/restores, SQL, ORM tools, phpMyAdmin.
- Version Control: Git/GitHub workflows.
- WHM/cPanel: managing accounts, databases, FTP, email, hosting environments.
- DNS Management & Hosting Setup: good skills and knowledge
- Microsoft Office: good skills and knowledge
- General workstation skills
Must have:
- Experience leading teams or mentoring junior developers.
- An agile mindset with a hunger for learning new technologies.
- A knack for balancing innovation with pragmatic, scalable solutions.
About You
You’re not just technically excellent, you’re a natural leader with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. You’re motivated, organised, and collaborative, with a genuine enthusiasm for web technologies and emerging trends.
Above all, you’re the type of developer who:
- Loves solving problems and sharing knowledge.
- Inspires teammates, designers, and account handlers to deliver their best work.
- Thrives in a team-driven environment but can also work independently.
